The Facility Manager's Above-Eye-Level Checklist

Walk each room and look up. Check supply diffusers and returns, lights, fans, TVs, cameras, speakers, signs, ceiling tile and grid, exposed ducts, beams, pipes, ledges, window tops and sprinkler heads (look only). Anything dusty, stained or cobwebbed belongs on your above-eye-level cleaning scope.

Room-by-room LOOK UP. checklist

  • Supply diffusers and smudge rings
  • Return air grilles
  • Light fixtures, pendants and exit signs
  • Ceiling fans and HVLS fans
  • TVs, mounts, speakers and cameras
  • Hanging signs, banners and décor
  • Ceiling tile, grid and stains
  • Exposed ducts, pipes, beams and joists
  • Ledges, sills, door tops and cabinet tops
  • Sprinkler heads and smoke detectors (report only, never clean)

What to do with the results

Count items by type, note heights, and request an itemized above-eye-level estimate. Anything showing leaks, mold, damage or crumbling material goes to the right specialty trade first.
