What Is Source-Capture Cleaning?

Source-capture cleaning removes dust at the exact point where it is disturbed, using HEPA-filtered vacuums and damp microfiber, so dust leaves the building instead of floating into the room. It is the foundation of the AELC Source-Control Method: do not move the contamination; capture it or contain it.

Why dry dusting falls short

Feather dusters and dry cloths dislodge dust, but much of the fine dust becomes airborne and resettles on tables, shelves and floors within hours.

The seven steps

  • Identify: inspect and photograph before touching anything
  • Capture: HEPA source-capture vacuuming
  • Contain: damp microfiber to bind fine dust
  • Clean: remove adhered soil with surface-appropriate methods
  • Treat (optional): label-directed sanitizing only where justified
  • Verify: inspection and before-and-after photos
  • Maintain: a recurring schedule
